Artist’s Statement
Sometimes words cannot express how I feel, but I find my inner voice with images, color and texture. Painting captures subtle nuances of light and shadow. I can be dramatic and bold—what freedom! I enjoy symbolism and complexity, so I do like to work in series.
I like to create something beautiful. I need to nourish myself with images of tranquility – flowers, birds and landscape. In doing art, negative feelings morph into positives. When I have felt disrespect or violence, art is how I heal myself.
My art is not always pretty or saccharin. When I express my feelings, good, bad or ugly, I look for balance. When I have had physical problems or relationship problems, I like to go to an art gallery or museum and feast my eyes on other artists’ images. Best of all, when I take pictures with my camera or pick up my brush and paint my own images, I have captured a moment in time.
I invite you, as my viewer to be refreshed by my images.
